BARBARA’S OBITUARY

Barbara J. Hoffman, age 64, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 16, 1961, in East St. Louis to the late Geno Cawvey and Barbara (nee Duke) Hicks. Barbara was a 1979 graduate of Collinsville High School. She retired from Fairmount Park Racetrack after 25 years of dedicated service as a veterinary technician for the Illinois Racing Board.

Barbara enjoyed camping, traveling, crafting, bird watching, and was a devoted lover of animals. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family. She was known as a person who many people came to for words of advice, and lend a nonjudgmental loving ear. Barbara’s life is most summed up by the following Bible verse:

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (NIV)

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ronda Reed.

She is survived by her loving husband, Peter T. Hoffman, Sr., whom she married on April 20, 1979; her son, Peter T. (Rosie) Hoffman, Jr. of Freeburg; her daughter, Jenifer M. (Jason) Hallgren of St. Peters; four grandchildren, Savannah (Wyatt Smith) Hoffman, Chloe Hoffman, Kendall Hoffman, and Reed Hoffman; her brother, Robert (Melissa) French of Belleville; and two sisters, Sondra (Johnny) Scott of Collinsville and Donna (Joe) Jones of Pontoon Beach; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Cody Stewart officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the family to assist with ongoing medical expenses or to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Memorial contributions will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
