Auto rack burns into the early Monday morning hours

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – The North Platte Fire Department responded to a fire at Union Pacific Railroad in North Platte Sunday night into Monday morning. An auto rack was on fire at East Tower, according to railroad employees.

North Platte Fire Department captain Emerald Miller says crews received the call around 10:30 p.m. about an unknown fire. When they arrived on scene, the fire was deemed a total loss.

Crews and Union Pacific employees worked to get the fire under control and it was out by 1:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire is unknown and no injures are reported.
