Union Pacific Corp. has paused construction of a $550 million facility planned for Robertson County near Hearne, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The 1,875-acre facility, which would host long trains being broken down into individual cars, had been under construction since its January 2018 groundbreaking. As previously reported by The Eagle, the Brazos Yard, located west of F.M. 50 between Hearne and Mumford, would bring commerce and 1,200 jobs to the local area.
“We didn’t need Brazos as soon as we originally thought we did,” Chief Executive Lance Fritz said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Other operations in Oregon and Arkansas have been shut down in order for rail car sorting to be conducted at other locations.
